The year began with sad news for the Rubro-Negra Nation. The legend Denir, a masseur who had served Flamengo since 1981, passed away due to brain cancer. The idol's wake took place in Gávea, the club's headquarters. It turns out that the absence of players at the ceremony surprised and angered the fans.

Denir was greatly honored by athletes on social media. However, the same did not happen at his wake. The legend's body remained in Gávea throughout the morning of this Tuesday (2), and was later buried in the Jardim da Saudade cemetery, in Mesquita.

To everyone's surprise, the only active player who Attending the red-black griô's wake was Marcelo Lomba. The goalkeeper was revealed by Flamengo in 2006 and now plays for Palmeiras. Adílio and Athirson were the former players who attended the ceremony.

Not even Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, was present. Márcio Tannure (head of DM), Vitor Zanelli (VP of base), Reinaldo Belotti (CEO of Fla), Bruno Spindel (executive director of football), Marcos Braz (VP of football) and Gabriel Skinner (supervisor) were the directors who paid their respects to Denir in Gávea.

The fans did not hide their irritation with the absence of players and idols at the red-black legend's wake. For many fans, the fact that the athletes are on vacation, most of them far from Rio, does not serve as an excuse. Red-blacks interpreted this attitude as a lack of respect towards Denir and showed deep disappointment.

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid, MVP of the 2022/23 NBA season, once again demonstrated his affection for Flamengo . Last Thursday (21), the Cameroonian player was spotted in an official club store, in Cabo Frio (RJ) , where he made a point of purchasing several red-black products.

A SURPRISING VISIT

Although unusual, Embiid's presence in the Lakes Region has a reason. Married to Brazilian model Anne de Paula, the athlete often visits the city, where his father-in-law lives, during the holidays. This time, he took the opportunity to explore the "Nação Rubro-Negra" store and expand his Flamengo memorabilia collection.

The star's arrival took everyone by surprise and caused great excitement among the employees.
