This Wednesday (15), the coach of the Brazilian men's basketball team, Aleksandar Petrovic, revealed the list of those called up for the Pre-Olympics. The Croatian selected 17 players, but only 12 will go on to the tournament that will define Brazil's participation in Paris 2024, meaning that five athletes will be cut before the competition.

Among those called up, wingers Didi stand out. Louzada, Gabriel Jaú and Gui Deodato, from Flamengo, and the club's former players, point guards Yago and Benitez, and center Felicio. The base of the group is the same as that which competed in the World Cup in September 2023, with some notable additions, such as Mãozinha, who shone for the Memphis Grizzlies, and new names Gui Deodato, Elinho Corazza and Alexey Borges. Raulzinho, recovered from injury, also returns to the squad.

Petrovic emphasized the mix of young talents and veterans in the team. “It’s a mix of young people and veterans, athletes I know and know their potential. An interesting group for the dispute. This will be my fourth tournament. But, it is very specific. We have to pay attention, especially in the first game, against Montenegro. So, we can seek a place in the semi-finals and escape Latvia at this stage”, commented the coach.

This Pre-Olympic is the last chance for Brazil to guarantee its presence in men's basketball in Paris, after the women's team and the 3×3 teams are unable to qualify. The tournament will take place from the 2nd to the 7th of July, but the preparation will include a series of friendlies against European teams organized by the CBB.

The Brazilian team will play two games in Croatia: against Poland, on the 24th of June , and against the hosts, on the 26th. They will then travel to Slovenia to face the local team on June 28th. These friendlies will be essential to adjust the team before the Pre-Olympics.

The legal dispute between Flamengo and Viton 44, the club's former sponsor, involving a long-standing debt, appears to be coming to an end with a creative solution in the form of a real estate transaction involving land. In 2015, Viton 44, known for its energy drinks 'Guaravita' and 'Guaraviton', signed a R$20 million contract to sponsor Flamengo.

The agreement provided for the brands to be displayed on the back and club uniform sleeve. However, after the contract was not renewed in 2016, the company ended up accumulating a debt of R$4 million with the Rio club, which, with corrections, now totals approximately R$7.2 million.

In the attempt To settle the debt, Flamengo and Neville Proa, owner of Viton 44, reached an agreement at the end of last year. The club received as payment a land measuring 10,688.86 m² located in Mangaratiba, in the luxurious Portobello Condominium, where striker Neymar also owns a property.

The land valued at R$ 12,124,629.70 came into auction this Tuesday, with the first bid marked at R$ 13,436,090.00 followed by a second round for R$ 12,214,629.70. Despite the high estimated value, no buyers emerged, passing the property directly into the hands of Flamengo, which now decides what to do with the land.

The agreement not only pays off an old debt, but also opens new ones possibilities for Flamengo in using this new asset. Developments can be expected in both the financial and institutional aspects for the club, which may explore the land in different ways, from sale to the development of infrastructure for the benefit of the club and its fans.

This outcome highlights the importance of innovative solutions in debt management and strengthens Flamengo's position not only in the fields, but also in the complex fiscal and business landscape.

Since the enactment of the Arthur Colecto Law in 2023, a pioneering measure aimed at the inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in public spaces, many expectations have been generated, especially in the sports scene. However, a detailed analysis reveals that football clubs in Rio de Janeiro have not yet met the deadlines established to adapt their stadiums, thus compromising the full implementation of the law and the inclusive participation of these fans.

The text of Arthur Colecto Law establishes a series of measures that aim to guarantee access and inclusion of people with ASD in public environments, including football stadiums. Among the adaptations required are the provision of adequate spaces to accommodate these fans, training of employees to deal with their specific needs, and the creation of inclusion policies within the clubs.

DUPLA FLA-FLU COME AHEAD

However, a recent survey revealed that, to date, none of the main clubs in Rio de Janeiro have completed the necessary adaptations to meet the requirements of the law. Not even the giants Flamengo and Fluminense, which should serve as examples for others, met the established deadline.

Faced with this scenario, councilor William Siri , from the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL), has stood out as a tireless defender of the cause. He has not only publicly charged the clubs, but also presented a project to the president of Vasco da Gama, Pedrinho, aiming to ensure that the Cruzmaltino club complies with current legislation.

In an exclusive statement to our vehicle, councilor William Siri expressed his concern about the current situation: "The Arthur Colecto Law is an important milestone in the fight for the inclusion of people with ASD, and it is essential that football clubs do their part to ensure that these fans can enjoy games safely and comfortably."
