Maracanã was the stage for a historic night last Sunday (December 15) to celebrate the official farewell of Adriano Imperador. The event was attended by several football stars, including former midfielder Hernanes, who revealed a curious episode: he was close to acting for Flamengo in 2018.
“There was a situation when I was in China, returning to Brazil. I decided between Flamengo and São Paulo. They contacted me, but, unfortunately, I'm going to have to choose my heart. That was missing (laughs), I chose by heart”, declared Hernanes, in an interview in the mixed zone of Maracanã on Sunday (15).
The choice for São Paulo
According to Hernanes, his decision to opt for São Paulo instead of Flamengo in 2018 was a defining moment in his career. If he had chosen Rubro-Negro, the “Prophet” could have been part of the historic cast of 2019, led by Jorge Jesus, who won the Libertadoresand the Brazilian Championship.
Farewell to Adriano Imperador
Despite being present at the celebration, Hernanes did not wear the Sacred Mantle in the festive match, as he was part of the cast of Italyin the game in honor of the Emperor. Even so, he highlighted the emotion of participating in such a special moment for Adriano, an icon of Brazilian and international football.
Adriano officially ended his career with an exciting show at Maracanã. The former striker scored two goals: one with the Flamengo shirt and the other with the Italian team, symbolizing the remarkable moments of his career both in Brazil< /b> as well as in Europe, especially at Inter Milan (ITA).
Flamengo and São Paulo in the United States
Now retired, Hernanes and Adriano will be able to follow a new chapter in the rivalry between Flamengo and São Paulo at the start of next season. Flamengo has important reinforcements in the coming days. With De La Cruz, Danilo and Emerson Royal on coach Filipe Luís' list of players for the game against Internacional this Sunday (17), Mengão now has a practically empty medical department. But Erick Pulgar's situation still deserves attention .
A regular starter for Filipe Luís, the Chilean midfielder has been out of action since the FIFA Club World Cup. The good news is that his recovery is progressing well, and a return to training is expected. Pulgar is expected to return to action in the second half of September .

Flamengo is preparing to face Internacional this Sunday (17), for the 20th round of the Brazilian Championship. On Friday afternoon (15), Arrascaeta gave a press conference and avoided commenting on a possible contract renewal with the club.

The Uruguayan's contract with the club runs until December 2026, and Flamengo only intends to begin negotiations to renew his contract in early 2026. Starting in June of next year, Arrascaeta will be able to sign a pre-contract with any club for free if he doesn't reach an agreement to stay.
