Professional returns to work in Brazilian football, after a season abroad
|
Coach Maurício Souza is back in Brazil after his time in Indonesia, where he led Madura United. Now, at 50 years old, he takes charge of the Red Bull Bragantino under-23 team. The contract was signed until the end of 2025.
Maurício Souza has an extensive history of work in the basic categories. He had significant spells at Flamengo and Botafogo, where he worked mainly on developing young talents. "I worked in transition categories for a long time. I don't think I will have any difficulties. I'm already quite used to it, especially having a structure like the one the club offers", said the coach.
PROFESSIONAL PATH
The new coach of Red Bull Bragantino's under-23s began his career as coach of Flamengo's under-20s, before taking on the role of assistant coach. On some occasions, he commanded Flamengo's main team on an interim basis, especially during the Campeonato Carioca, using a group of young players. However, his time at Flamengo ended in 2022, when he was fired.
In the same year, Maurício Souza was hired by Vasco da Gama. However, his stay at the club was short and marked by irregular results in Series B. In eight games, he recorded three wins, three defeats and two draws, which led to his dismissal.
CHALLENGE AT RED BULL BRAGANTINO
Now, Maurício Souza faces a new challenge at the head of Red Bull Bragantino's under-23s. He will be responsible for leading the team in the Copa Paulista, which will be held in the second half of this year.

< p>Shirt 7 still leads important offensive statistics in the national competition
|
The first half of the Brazilian Championship has come to an end, and with that, some highlights need to be remembered. One of them is Luiz Araújo, Flamengo's winger, who had a great first round. Proof of this is that shirt number 7 received the highest score among all players in the position.
With a strong presence on the right side of the field, Luiz Araújo received the highest score on the portal 'Sofascore',7.35, among everyone in the Brazilian Championship. This is because the number 7 played all 18 games with Mais Querido, where he scored three goals and recorded four assists, being the second biggest assistant in the tournament, behind his teammate, Pedro.
It is also worth mentioning that, needing 164 minutes on average to participate in goals in the Brasileirão, Luiz Araújo is the leader in big chances created , with eight. Finally, Flamengo's winger still has a 69% success rate in attempted dribbles.
Aiming for the clash against Atlético-GO This Sunday (28), Flamengo only trains on Saturday for Tite to decide who the starting team will be. This is because the athletes who started playing against Vitória only carried out regenerative work in the gym this Friday (26) and were not on the Ninho do Urubu fields.
Despite the short time, Tite had two important comebacks: Pulgar and Wesley. The midfielder had missed the last round due to gastroenteritis, while the full-back had problems with his left thigh.
Bruno Henrique, on the other hand, is still recovering from the injury he suffered to his right ankle. Undergoing more conservative treatment due to the previous problems he faced, the number 27 has not even started the transition phase to the pitch and is out of the duel on Sunday (28).
Flamengo's probable lineup: Rossi, Varela (Wesley), Fabrício Bruno, Léo Pereira and Viña; Allan (Pulgar), De la Cruz, Arrascaeta and Gerson; Cebolinha and Pedro.
Flamengo's attacking midfielder is close to being negotiated with the São Paulo club
|
One of the jewels of Flamengo, attacking midfielder Matheus Gonçalves, is close to a return to Bragantino. The São Paulo club presented a proposal of 6 million euros, which Flamengo was pleased with, but there are still disagreements about the percentage of economic rights to be transferred.
Bragantino initially offered 5 million euros (approximately R$ 30.6 million) for 70% of Matheus Gonçalves' economic rights, a proposal that was promptly rejected by Flamengo.
Persistent, the São Paulo club increased the offer to 6 million euros (around R$36.8 million), a value that Flamengo considered acceptable. However, Rubro-Negro does not agree with the sale of 70% of the rights, arguing that the fair share to be negotiated is 50%.
Negotiations are still ongoing with good chances of progress, but the clubs are still trying to reach an agreement satisfactory to both. The current impasse is related to the projection of a future sale of the young 18-year-old player, who played for Bragantino on loan in the second half of 2023, where he participated in 13 matches, starting four times and contributing one assist.
Matheus Gonçalves, who will turn 19 on August 18, has a contract with Flamengo until December 2027. The negotiation with Bragantino represents an opportunity for the young attacking midfielder to continue his development in a competitive environment, while Flamengo seeks to guarantee a fair financial return for the talent he has revealed.
