With the 2025 Club World Cup getting closer , FIFA continues to promote the competition and its protagonists. This time, the tournament's official profile highlighted a local player: Matheus Sávio , an attacking midfielder trained at Flamengo and currently at Urawa Reds in Japan.
Matheus Sávio will play in Group E of the tournament, where he will face strong opponents such as River Plate, Inter Milan and Monterrey-MEX. In the FIFA post, the player was titled as " the inventor of the diamond ", in reference to his creative style of play .

The competition's official profile highlighted the midfielder's performance in Japanese football, especially in creating attacking plays. Between 2023 and 2024, Matheus Sávio created 81 more chances than any other player in the J1 League .
Signed as a major reinforcement for Urawa Reds for 2025 , the midfielder is still looking for his first goal or assist for his new club, after six matches played. However, his record for Kashiwa Reysol proves his quality: 34 goals and 32 assists in six seasons.
The year 2023 was the most productive of the Brazilian's career, with eight goals and 14 assists . Alongside Thuler , another former Flamengo player, he was elected to the ideal team of the J1 League 2024 .
Matheus Sávio's career at Flamengo
Discovered by Flamengo in 2014, after a stint at Desportivo Brasil , Matheus Sávio stood out in the youth ranks, winning titles such as the Carioca Sub-20 (2015) and the Copinha (2016).
His professional debut came in 2015, and in total he played 29 games and scored six goals for Flamengo. He was then loaned to Estoril-POR (2017) and CSA-AL (2019).
In 2019, the midfielder was traded to Kashiwa Reysol for R$4.6 million. As Flamengo kept 30% of the economic rights , the transfer to Urawa Reds earned the club around R$5.7 million at the beginning of 2025.
