Behind the scenes at Flamengo have been busy in recent days. This is because Flamengo's Statute Committee rejected a proposal for part of the vacancies on the club's committees to be aimed at women and black people on the grounds that it would be "discrimination".

In principle, an amendment was presented so that the Flamengo Statute Committee marketing is permanent on the Deliberative and Administrative Council. Before, it was only provisional. Councilor Marion Konczyk Kaplan proposed an addendum to the amendment, creating quotas of 10% for blacks and women on all committees. The idea was presented to the Statute Committee.

The committee rejected the proposal on the grounds that it contradicts article 3 of the statute. The excerpt talks about "discrimination based on origin, race, sex, color, age, religious belief, philosophical or political conviction and social condition being prohibited".

The opinion with the response was read at a meeting , which took place last Monday, at the request of Antonio Alcides, president of the Deliberative. In this sense, according to information from the UOL portal, several advisors confirmed the content of the speech during the meeting.

The author of the proposal asked to speak and was rebutted by a member of the commission. She identified the stance as "from the last century" and was applauded by the Council. The justification had negative repercussions internally. Many counselors interpreted that the allegation did not make sense in the context presented. This was even refuted in the plenary.

The Statute Committee, today, is made up only of men. Fla's Deliberative Council also has a male majority, with more than 90% representation. It is worth remembering that Flamengo was approached to explain the situation. However, he received no response.
