In recent years, Flamengo has solidified its position as one of the greatest powers in Brazilian football. In addition to revenues that arouse the envy of rivals, Rubro-Negro has won titles and set records in recent seasons. However, even in the face of this situation, Duílio Monteiro Alves, president of Corinthians, made a comparison between the São Paulo club and Flamengo.

“In the last three years, the only difference between Corinthians and Flamengo and Palmeiras are the titles. Administratively, our work was very well done. The numbers are public. If you look at this work, it loses nothing to Palmeiras and Flamengo. But yes, we were worse on the field.”, declared Duílio, in an interview with ‘Corinthians TV’.

When analyzing the last three years mentioned by Duílio, the comparison between Flamengo and Corinthians reveals a significant difference. During this period, Flamengo won a Libertadores da América and a Copa do Brasil in 2022, while Corinthians came second in the Copa do Brasil, losing precisely to Rubro-Negro.

In 2023, the disparity between clubs persists. In the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo's main objective is to guarantee direct classification for the Libertadores and, additionally, seek the national title. Meanwhile, Duílio's Corinthians are "running against time" to move away from the relegation zone in the competition.

In the decisive phase of the Brasileirão, Flamengo will face Fluminense this Saturday (11) in the 34th round of the tournament. The classic is scheduled for 6:30 pm (Brasília time), at Maracanã. In turn, Corinthians will have a clash against Grêmio on Sunday (12) at 4pm (Brasília time), in Porto Alegre.
