In an interview with the Basticast podcast, the former player and idol of Flamengo's Dejan Petkovic has declared his interest in serving as the club's football director. Petkovic revealed that he has been prepared for the role since 2013, but that his priority is a paid position, such as management, due to the time and dedication required by the role.
Dejan Petkovic, known for his historic contribution to Flamengo, recently participated in the Basticast podcast, where he was asked about his desire to work with the club again. During the conversation, Petkovic revealed that he would like to work as football director, a role that he considers suitable to his qualifications and that he believes he is prepared to take on. However, the former player made an important reservation about the conditions to perform the role.
FLAMENGO IDOLO WANTS POSITION
During the interview, Petkovic was direct in stating that he has no interest in assuming the vice-presidency of Flamengo, as it is an unpaid position. “Vice-presidency, no, because it is an unpaid position. And I'm not rich enough to be able to spend 24 hours dedicated to the club and not have a salary. It’s as simple as that.” This statement from Petkovic reflects his practical view on the commitment required by the club and the need for financial return, which he considers fundamental for complete and focused involvement.
Petkovic also explained his specific interest in the role of director of football, a position he considers suitable for his experience and skills. He highlighted that this desire is not recent: “It has been my desire since 2013, but it did not happen”. Choosing the paid position is aligned with his vision of professional commitment and full dedication, factors that he believes are essential for success in sports management.
The former player reflected on why his interest in the position never materialized, questioning whether this was due to some factor linked to his competence. “Sometimes I ask myself if I’m too incompetent or too competent, something of both,” said Petkovic, highlighting his frustration at the lack of opportunity at the club where he stood out as an athlete. He believes his experience and understanding of football would be put to good use in a management position at Flamengo< /a>.
