On the morning of this Monday (25), Eduardo Paes, Rodolfo Landim and members of Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the board of directors Flamengoparticipated in a ceremony in Gávea for signing the term of commitment which makes the construction of the club's new stadium possible. During the event, the club's vice-president of Heritage, Marcos Bodin, highlighted that the project goes beyond football, including a structure to host NFL American football games.
The interest of Flamengo in attracting the NFL had already been mentioned by Landim in an interview in October, and the details presented by Bodin confirm the intention. According to him, the locker rooms will be designed to accommodate American football teams, which have squads with more than 30 players, in addition to other specific features. The stadium will feature cutting-edge technology, such as a 360º LED screen and an exclusive lounge to watch the teams enter the field.
“Build a stadium that is for Rio, following new concepts from Porto Maravilha. We have a very ‘I like Maracanã with popular access’ profile. There is a square, the screen in front. A lounge tunnel has places where you can see the players enter the field. Very modern. A skywalk above the stadium. All prepared to bring the NFL here. Changing room the size they need, the distance they need. An attempt to bring another business to Rio”, began Bodin.
Brazil is the third largest American football market in the world, behind only the United States and Mexico. An example of the potential of this sport in the country was the game between Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, held in September at the Neo Química Arena, which generated an economic turnover of more than R $300 million.

Economic contribution and diversified uses of the stadium
Marcos Bodin also commented on the economic impact of the project. The stadium square, which will have a large screen and capacity for up to 15 thousand people, will be a multi-use space, prepared to host cultural events and generate additional revenue. The proposal follows the guidelines of the notice, which foresees that the stadium will serve as a stage for various types of events in addition to football.
“The square will have capacity for 15 thousand people. In other words, for Flafest when we are in other places or for various cultural events, as you requested. Doors open for cultural events, restaurants open too. The intention is to make it work 24/7, always bringing activity to the region”, said the director, before completing:
“Expected revenue ofR$ 650 million with the new stadium. This is a tax that we are generating directly with matchdays.”, he commented, before Rodolfo Landim added: “Maracanã generates more or less R$ 330 million per year. We’re talking about doubling this recipe here,” he concluded.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who came through the ranks at the club's youth academy, has played a few minutes in 2025 and is attracting interest from European clubs.
