The main Brazilian swimming tournament begins this Monday (21). Until April 26, the Fadel Fadel Aquatic Park, at Flamengo's headquarters in Gávea, will be the stage for the Maria Lenk Trophy 2025. The event brings together the national swimming elite and also features international athletes from Bolivia, Colombia, Uruguay and Turkey.
The competition is crucial for the Brazilian swimming calendar, serving as a qualifier for the main international events of the season, such as the World Championships, the Pan American Games, the Pan Juniors, the Junior World Championships and the South American tournaments. In total, 380 athletes from 44 teams participate in the tournament.
Flamengo will be represented by a delegation of 41 athletes at the Maria Lenk Trophy 2025, including prominent names such as Stephan Steverink, Gabrielle Assis, Guilherme Escudero, Pedro Medrado, Joice Otero and Rafaela Sumida. Completing the red-and-black team are the swimmers Ana Luiza Daisson, André Albuquerque, Artur Macedo, Betina Trigo, Caio Ribeiro, Caroline Toledo, Caroline Pedersen, Clara Flores, Davi Sacramento, Gabriela Ferreira, Gabrielle Cinelli, Giulia Vitoria, Giuliana Cosenza, Guilherme Kanzler, Isaac Dias, Isabel Fagundes, Isabella Durante, João Saiki, Julia Benevides, Leonardo Silva, Lucca Tonin, Luiz Daniel Moura, Manuela Araújo, Manuela Astori, Maria Luiza Howe, Maria Luiza Candal, Mariana Clark, Miguel Garcia, Paulo Marcelo, Pedro Buch, Pedro Neves, Rayssa Isabelle, Renata Moreira and Thaynara Lago.
Minas Tênis Clube , with 53 swimmers, followed by Pinheiros (47), and Unisanta (30), complete the list of teams that sent the most athletes to the competition.
In addition to marking the official debut of the 2025 competition season, Maria Lenk has a special meaning for the red-and-black athletes, who swim at home, in a water park that they know like few others. And it is precisely this structure that is one of the tournament's great novelties: Fadel Fadel now has the first Olympic-size pool in Brazil equipped with a reverse pump, a technology that maintains the water temperature within the ideal standard required by FINA.
The competition format follows the traditional model, with qualifying rounds starting at 9:30 am and finals starting at 6 pm, divided into finals A, B and Junior. Entry for the public is free.

“Stephan’s participation, as an athlete and Nutrition student at Estácio, symbolizes the importance of the Yduqs Institute’s Career Transition Program. Being present at an event like the Maria Lenk Trophy, with students working in different areas, reinforces the role of education in the development of diverse career paths, including in sports,” says Cláudia Romano, president of the Yduqs Institute and vice president of the Yduqs Educational Group.
The Philadelphia 76ers center was at a shopping mall in Cabo Frio, in the Lakes Region of Rio de Janeiro, and made purchases of Mengão products.

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid, MVP of the 2022/23 NBA season, once again demonstrated his affection for Flamengo . Last Thursday (21), the Cameroonian player was spotted in an official club store, in Cabo Frio (RJ) , where he made a point of purchasing several red-black products.
Although unusual, Embiid's presence in the Lakes Region has a reason. Married to Brazilian model Anne de Paula, the athlete often visits the city, where his father-in-law lives, during the holidays. This time, he took the opportunity to explore the "Nação Rubro-Negra" store and expand his Flamengo memorabilia collection.
The star's arrival took everyone by surprise and caused great excitement among the employees. Salesman Kauan said he was so nervous when he met the player that he forgot to remove the alarm from a piece of furniture, creating an unusual moment: " His father-in-law even joked with me afterward. It was an unforgettable experience ," he revealed.
Embiid didn't hold back. He brought jerseys for himself, his wife, his father-in-law, and his son , as well as accessories like shorts and thermoses. The visit even helped meet the store's sales goals. The center also obliged some fans and store owners by agreeing to take photos with them.
Embiid's connection with Flamengo isn't new. In 2023, during an interview with the NBA Freestyle program, he revealed that he started supporting Flamengo because of his wife's family: " Actually, I'm a Flamengo fan because my girlfriend's father is a fan . Since we started dating, I've been following the team," he said.
In January 2024, when Flamengo held a preseason training camp in Philadelphia, Embiid met Léo Pereira and Matheus Gonçalves . The defender even posted a photo with the star: " Nice to meet you, brother ." Thus, the relationship between Joel Embiid and Flamengo continues to grow, uniting basketball and soccer in a connection that already transcends borders.
