The pressure on Tite in recent days, intensified by the elimination in the Libertadores, culminated in the decision of the Flamengo board to fire him him, even with the Brazilian Cup semi-final against Corinthians approaching.

The coach was dismissed two days before the start of the knockout stage. The 1-0 victory against Athletico-PR on Sunday, which broke a run of four games without a win, was not enough to relieve the pressure or change the assessment of the work, considered stagnant by the board.

Tite arrived at Flamengo in October last year, surrounded by prestige. Under his command, the club won the Campeonato Carioca undefeated, with the least leaky defense in the history of the competition, conceding just one goal.

During the Copa América, despite many absences, the coach managed to maintain the competitive team, which was well regarded internally. However, the drop in performance from August onwards raised concerns, even though the board attributed part of this decline to constant absences from the squad.

After the elimination in the Libertadores, the match against Athletico-PR was treated as a "last chance" for Tite to reverse the situation. Despite the victory, achieved with a goal from Gerson in the 44th minute of the second half, the performance was not considered sufficient.

Tite's quick arrival to the press conference room after the game, something unusual, drew attention , suggesting a short contact between the coach and the players. In fact, according to 'GE', there was no interaction, which was interpreted as a sign of distance and lack of harmony, something that bothered the directors even more.

After the match, president Rodolfo Landim and football vice Marcos Braz discussed the situation. On Monday morning, they decided to make the change, informing Tite's agent, Gilmar Veloz, and publishing the official notice of dismissal at 7:30 am.

Filipe Luís played for Flamengo from 2019 until 2023, a period in which he was a teammate of practically the entire cast. The only exception is Alex Sandro, who, although he was a Brazilian teammate, did not play for Fla at the same time as the former full-back. The players who played with Filipe Luís are:

Filipe Luís arrives with the mission of winning the national knockout stage and bringing Flamengo closer to the Brasileirão leaders. Filipe Luís, idol and now interim coach of Flamengo, officially took command of the main team this Monday (30). The former player began preparing the squad with the aim of reorganizing the team for the sequence of games. The first training session led by Filipe took place at 3:30 pm (Brasília time) at CT Ninho do Urubu, and marks the beginning of his journey in the new role. The club is confident that his experience on the field will bring immediate benefits to the team.

The announcement of Filipe Luís as interim coach came after the dismissal of the previous coach, who left the position after a series of negative results. As a result, Flamengo's board opted for an internal and temporary solution, betting on a name that knows the squad and has a good relationship with the players. The former left-back, who built a solid and respected career in European and Brazilian football, now faces the challenge of guiding Flamengo to a recovery within the season.

FLAMENGO SEEKS HOMEMADE SOLUTION

During the first training session, Filipe prioritized tactical organization and defensive positioning, areas that he has always mastered as a player. Ninho do Urubu had an atmosphere of concentration and seriousness, with the athletes responding positively to the new commander's instructions. Filipe Luís also dedicated a significant part of his time to individual conversations with some players, seeking to understand their expectations and align the strategy for the upcoming games.

Filipe Luís' challenge in the Flamengo will not be easy, considering the pressure for results and the club's unstable moment . The board did not determine a specific deadline for the former full-back to remain as interim coach, but the expectation is that he will lead the team until the arrival of a new effective coach. Behind the scenes, it is said that the transition with a name already known internally can help minimize the impacts of drastic changes.

Filipe Luís is a big name in the Flamengo, with a winning record and respect earned on and off the field. The board's confidence in the former player's work is an indication that he will have the freedom to implement some of his tactical ideas, but always with the focus on maintaining the team's balance and competitiveness. According to sources linked to the club, Filipe has the full support of the players and the technical committee, who see in him a positive leadership for the group.

With the beginning of this new cycle, Flamengo hopes to return to the path of victories and stabilize performance within the championship. The fans, who have always been an important force for the club, are already mobilizing to support their idol in this challenge. For now, Filipe Luís' mission will be to organize the house and prepare the squad for the next commitments, while the board defines the team's future coach.

The pressure on Tite behind the scenes at Flamengo has grown in recent days, especially after the elimination in the Libertadores. The coach's dismissal was announced just two days before the Copa do Brasil semi-final against Corinthians. Even with the 1-0 victory against Athletico-PR on Sunday, ending a run of four games without a win, the internal pressure did not ease.

Example of Sampaoli and low fine

In 2023, the board of Flamengo decided to keep Jorge Sampaoli for the Copa do Brasil final, despite his poor performance. The result was defeat to São Paulo and the end of the year without titles. This time, Rodolfo Landim and his peers chose to look for a "new fact" to prevent the scenario from repeating itself. The proximity of the club's presidential election, scheduled for December 9th, also influenced the decision, since Tite had very low popularity among the fans, as demonstrated by the insults at Maracanã on Sunday.

Another factor that What made the decision easier was the low termination fine. Flamengo will only need to pay 50% of the remaining value of Tite's contract, which had another three months to run, resulting in a amount of approximately R$ 3 million.

Confidence in Filipe Luís

The possibility of promoting Filipe Luís, U20 coach, had been considered behind the scenes and gained strength after the elimination in Libertadores. The relationship of trust between Filipe and Marcos Braz, established since the manager went to Spain in 2019 to sign the player, facilitated quick negotiations.

Although Filipe Luís was announced as interim coach, according to the 'GE', Flamengo's intention is to sign a contract with him until the end of 2025, even with the new board that will take over after the elections. Filipe would compete for the Carioca U20 title this week, but he has already changed his routine and will start working with the main team this Monday afternoon, at Ninho do Urubu.
