Flamengo was eliminated from the Libertadores last Thursday (26), when they only had a goalless draw with Peñarol, but lost on aggregate. In this way, Mais Querido joined Palmeiras and broke a historic sequence. This is because, for the first time since 2017, none of the clubs are in the semi-finals of the competition.

With the draw with Peñarol, Mais Querido was eliminated in the quarter-finals, after losing 1 to 0 in the first match. On the other hand, Palmeiras fell to Botafogo in the round of 16, 4-3 on aggregate.

In this seven-year period, Rubro-Negro was a triple finalist in the Libertadores, winning two titles (2019 and 2022). In the current edition, Mais Querido reached the quarterfinals and fell to the round of 16 in three others. Palmeiras reached two decisions and won both (2020 and 2021). Furthermore, the alviverde team stopped in the semi-finals three times.

FLAMENGO'S SITUATION

Eliminated from the Libertadores, Flamengo will only have two competitions to focus on: Copa of Brazil and Brasileirão. In the national knockout round, Rubro-Negro faces Corinthians in the semi-final. In the points competition, Flamengo needs to win again to get out of fourth place.

FOCUS ON THE NEXT CONFRONTATION

Flamengo and Athletico-PR meet face this Sunday (29), at 8pm, at Maracanã. The clash will be valid for the 28th round of the Brasileirão and around 20 thousand tickets have already been sold. The match will be broadcast live on Premiere.

Last week, coach Arthur Elias called up the 23 athletes to represent Brazil at the Paris Olympics. However, the coach left Flamengo star Cristiane off the list, which took everyone by surprise. Thus, this Friday (5), the Mais Querido striker published an emotional message on her social networks.

“Hi girls, how are you? I hope well! Well, I can't say I'm happy because I'd be lying and pretending to be what I'm not lol. I'm here, trying to pick up the pieces that fell so I can rebuild myself, and you can be sure that I will be able to", begins the athlete.

Cristiane also highlighted that she has "a thousand reasons to express" her feelings about the absence on the list. However, the rest of the message is focused on sending positive energy to those selected and wishing them a good Olympics.

“Dream every day about the possibility of bringing home a medal, try to do everything together! Help each other, get back on your feet, motivate each other. Just live the dream! This time I won't be there shouting at you lol, but I'm sure you'll do everything you can to cheer up the many girls who will be cheering from afar (…) Enjoy it all. Good luck to all of you, I will be cheering for Olympic gold with my heart open. Take the field for the thousands of girls who dream of all this”, says Cristiane in another excerpt.

JUSTIFIED ABSENCE

After calling up the 23 names, the Brazilian team coach reported the reason of not having summoned Cristiane. Arthur Elias says he left the Flamengo striker out because of the competition and that she would be on the list for the World Cup.
