Flamengo is likely not to appeal the decision of the Second Panel of the Superior Federal Court (STF), given on Friday (17/5), which recognizes Sport as the only Brazilian champion of 1987. And, as a result, São Paulo as worthy of the Bolinhas Cup, for being the first club to win the championship five times.

Internally, Flamengo understands that taking this action was a mistake. The reason for this understanding is that the STF has already judged the same request on another occasion and the club did not present a different demand in the new request. The office set up to defend the club in the case has already left the action.

Flamengo wanted to share the title with Sport. According to Dias Toffoli's report, the courts of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco had already denied the request. And the STF itself has already spoken out, in 2018, claiming that Sport is the 1987 champion. Toffoli was accompanied by the other ministers of the 2nd Panel.

The lawsuit was filed because in 1987 there were two championships. That year the Confederation Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) announced that it was in financial crisis and the main teams formed a group, called Clube dos 13, and created their own competition, the Copa União, which was won by Flamengo. the competition, played by smaller clubs, organized by the CBF.

Carlinhos' performance in the last classic between Flamengoand Vasco, played on Sunday, has generated a wave of criticism and questions from the red and black fans. The striker, who entered the field in the 18th minute of the second half, replacing Bruno Henrique, played a discreet role and ended up failing to help the team in one of the most decisive moments of the match.

The classic, as always, was a game intense and highly anticipated by both fans, with great weight for the championship table and the morale of the teams. However, Carlinhos' entry, which lasted just 27 minutes, was considered below expectations, especially in a scenario where Flamengo was looking for a victory to distance itself from its rivals.

During the 27 minutes he was on the field, Carlinhos barely appeared, failing to influence the game as expected. The player only touched the ball a few times, did not create clear scoring chances and also did not help efficiently in the defensive system. With an apathetic performance, the striker ended up becoming a target of frustration for the fans, who expected more from a player who, at other times, had already demonstrated the potential to be decisive.

The lack of offensive participation was a of the main points raised by critics. In a game that required creativity and boldness to break through the Vasco blockade, Carlinhos was unable to find spaces or impose his presence as a constant threat to the opponent's goal. In classics, where every detail makes a difference, this lack of protagonism weighed even more.

The replacement of Bruno Henrique by Carlinhoswas also a factor that generated discussion. Bruno Henrique, although he was not having a brilliant performance, is a player recognized for his ability to decide games, especially in big confrontations. His departure 18 minutes into the second half was justified by the coaching staff as part of the planning to spare the athlete, who recently returned from injury.

After taking charge of Flamengo, Tite, former coach of the Brazilian national team, made it clear that he is quickly adapting to the club's culture. In recent statements, he highlighted Rubro-Negro's striking characteristic: the incessant search for all possible titles. According to the coach, this spirit of intense competition is something that he not only admires, but is also incorporating into his own work philosophy.

Tite, known for his meticulous and results-focused work, revealed that the Transition to Flamengo involves constant learning, especially in relation to the club's winning mentality. "Flamengo has this culture of fighting for every title. There is no focus on just one competition, the goal is to win everything within reach", he explained.

THE COACH WANTS A COMPETITIVE STYLE

This characteristic is notable in Flamengoin recent years, which has won several important competitions, such as the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores. Tite, accustomed to pressure and the need for results, states that this mentality is something he is adopting in his day-to-day life at the club. “I see this culture, and this is what we are doing. Flamengo has this requirement, and I am a coach who likes this type of challenge.”

Although Tite has an established career, with successful spells at clubs such as Corinthians and the Brazilian national team, Flamengo represents a new experience for the coach. He is now at the helm of a team that has traditionally had fans calling for victories in every competition they compete in, something he sees as a positive challenge.

"You have to learn every day Even with the experience I have, here I realize that there are very high expectations, but at the same time that's what makes you grow", commented the coach. For him, working at a club that maintains such a high level of demand motivates him to always seek the best.

In 1987, the Brazilian Football Championship was marked by one of the biggest controversies in the history of national sport. The title dispute between Flamengo and Sport still generates intense debates, dividing opinions between fans, journalists and jurists. Paulo Vinícius Coelho (PVC), in an interview with AltTabet on UOL Esporte, brought this controversy to light, proposing a conciliatory view on the topic.

PVC states that, despite considering the Flamengo the legitimate champion of 1987, believes that the title must be shared with Sport. According to him, “The legitimate champion of 1987 is Flamengo, but I think it has to be shared.” He argues that this is not an isolated situation in Brazilian football and that the practice of dividing titles is not unprecedented.

FLAMENGO HAS A NEW INVESTMENT

The confusion began with the creation of the Copa União , organized by the Clube dos 13, which brought together the main clubs in Brazil, while the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) organized another parallel championship. Flamengo won the Copa União, while Sport won the title in the tournament organized by the CBF. The controversy intensified when the CBF declared Sport as Brazilian champion, a decision that was later confirmed by the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

PVC highlights that “the legal champion that the STF has already judged and understands is o Sport”, highlighting the legal legitimacy of the Pernambuco team’s achievement. However, he also recognizes the sporting value of Flamengo's victory in the Copa União, justifying his proposal to share the title.
